New waterskink species for Cambodia found near ACCB!

2009-06-25: waterskink Tropidophorus cocincinensis There was no evidence so far for the existence of the waterskink Tropidophorus cocincinensis outside of Vietnam and Laos. But now this skink species was detected in Cambodia. The biologist Timo Hartmann who is collecting the data for his Ph.D. study at the Museum Koenig (Germany) in cooperation with ACCB and the General Department of Administration for Nature Conservation and Protection (GDANCP) of the Ministry of Environment found a female individual at Kbal Spean within Phnom Kulen National Park, Northwest Cambodia. As a result of morphological analysis differences to T. microlepis were noticed so that the animal could be clearly identified as T. cocincinensis. Thus Cambodia’s second waterskink species has been discovered. Original paper about the new waterskink species
